TRENCH COAT

A trench coat is perfect for unreliable weather. It's not freezing cold here in the UK but it's not exactly a summer haven either. Trying to zone in on outfits that aren't going to leave you 1) horribly underdressed, or 2) overdressed, is harder than you would imagine. I think I just about nailed it these last few days. Under my trench, which is from Burberry, I'm wearing a navy linen cardi from Muji and a Gap breton with my favouritest jeans in the world, which were from Comptoirs des Cotonniers. I just had my Roger Vivier flats re-soled and they feel brand spanking new again! So, this outfit is great for lazing about the house or nipping out in. My Isabel Marant jacket it perfect for taking the outfit from home to work, but I'm still comfy. Shabang! Pics shot in the shop - we just got in a batch of the coolest little Liberty shirts!

Does anyone know if there is a 'correct' length of trench coat for women? Are there any such rules? Because I was thinking of getting mine taken up by a few inches. I like it when trench coats are sort of swamping, but I'm wondering if this one is just a little too long. Any thoughts?

  2. This trenchcoat seems to be a little long indeed, but I have no idea how long it should be. But it looks great on you ! X

  3. But the trench being a little long could be what makes it stand out from other trenchcoats walking around the city. I think that your trenchcoat, being a little longer, would look amazing when one has a little short dress on. So Id keep it as it is, but if you want it shorter you should get it cut!! :)

  6. Personally I would have it shortened slightly to perhaps the knee or a tiny bit below, I think this gives a particularly nice shape when the waist is cinched a reduction in the weight of the material makes it kick out more on the hips. I think perhaps the capri length of your jean is working against the length of the trench so it would be interesting to see how a longer length jean looks - maybe your black waxy H&M ones :-)

  8. I like the trench; the color and shape are classic. However, the length is a bit too long in my opinion. Since you're tall, you can pull of this length without looking completely drowned in it, but a few inches shorter would look even better. Get it tailored right in the middle of your knee.

  10. I actually have the same problema. There must be a line between "long and flowy" and "drowning in grandfather's coat ", but it's really quite hard to tell. Don't touch that Burberry's beauty until you're sure!

  17. Hey there, I do actually know the answer to this. A trench should sit on the knee - the idea being that they are originally for army wear and then adapted for wet weather - so you would have your wellington boots up to your upper calf - a trench shouldn't 'meet' the boots at any point... Had a summer job at a trench store once... xxx

  19. I love your outfit!! You look superduper French in it (which is just about the best compliment i could ever give someone!).

The way your trench, your cardigan, and the stripes work together with your worn in jeans and ballet flats is just perfect. I think I'm tearing up a little bit here!
That plus I absolutely adore that Isabel Marant jacket! I remember seeing it on someone else and just absolutely wanting to have it. Now if only my wallet and bank account could cooperate with me... :)

Like you, I like it when trench coats are a little bit longer but yours does seem to be a little bit too long. To me, the perfect trench coat would be above the knee, perhaps even somewhere around mid-thigh. Depending on how your body is shaped I suppose, your trench coat could suit you best falling at various points. If you aren't interested in my opinion, check out what Anna said two comments above me. She seems to definitely know what she's talking about! :)

This is totally random but I think I used to read your blog. After a while, I lost track of it. I'm super glad I found it again today :D It seems as if you've redesigned everything. Your blog looks very nice, clean and simple to read. I likey :D
